Things I didn't know

From an article about the high rate of bodies being found in the Spokane River in the last year and a half (11 in 16 months): "Bodies normally resurface in seven to 10 days, Walker said. They typically float at the surface for 24 to 48 hours before sinking again."

I'll keep that in mind.

There's this charming time of the year in New York Harbor called "Floater's Week".

Tends to be in April.

That's when the water starts to warm up a bit.

Don't think about it too hard if you're having breakfast.

Nice. Do you go out and kayak a slalom through them?

Not quite, but some kayakers did find one once, and another time one of the more entertaining (in a good, if occasionally macabre, way) partners in my old kayak company ran a Floater's Week circumnavigation.
